Bolton are interested in making a January move for Wolves winger Michael Kightly, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 22-year old Kightly is quite the success story. The former Tottenham trainee didn’t make much of an impact at Southend, but since a move to Conference side Grays in 2005, it’s been a meteoric rise for Kightly. Wolves scooped him up in the 2006/07 season, and he’s not only established himself as a top player in the Championship, but he also earned a place in England’s Under-21 squad.
Kightly has been linked with everyone from Manchester United to Portsmouth over the last couple of years, and his fine form for the Championship leaders has him in the papers again heading into the New Year. So far, he’s scored seven league goals and assisted on ten more, which is a big reason why Wolves are top of the Championship near the halfway point of the campaign.
Bolton do need to reinforce their squad in January to help them, but Kightly might be an unrealistic target. If Wolves do get promoted to the Premier League, they and Bolton will likely be in much the same position of fighting for survival/a safe place in the bottom half of the table, so what amounts to a lateral move would be just a little curious. Besides, if he continues at the pace that he’s on right now, he’ll be worth a lot more than the £5m Gary Megson wants to table for him.
