Liverpool have been handed a massive blow in signing Southampton defender Dejan Lovren after the centre-back admitted that he is happy at St Mary’s Stadium.
The 24-year-old joined the Saints from French club Lyon last summer. The Reds manager Brendan Rodgers was reportedly interested in signing in 2013. However, Liverpool could not land him and they are still being interested in making a swoop for Lovren.
According to a report from The Telegraph, the Merseyside club are looking to land the Croatian international before the start of the next season as the former Swansea boss is looking to strengthen his side’s back four.
However, Lovren has put the recent speculations surrounding his future to bed by suggesting that he is happy with his current employers.
“I also heard something about that. I follow the media and I saw that Liverpool is allegedly interested in me. But that is all that I know so far,” Sky Sports quoted Lovren as saying when asked about Liverpool
“I feel great at Southampton and my contract is valid for the next three years. So the only thing I can say right now is that the club is the one who decides,” he added.
The centre-back has been a key figure in the heart of Southampton’s defence, making 31 appearances in the league. In the process, he has managed two goals and has one assist to his name.
In other Liverpool News, Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has bagged the ESM European Golden Boot award, which he shares with Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo. Both the Uruguayan international and the former Manchester United star have netted 31 goals in the league during the 2013-14 season.
“Luis Suarez will share the ESM European Golden Shoe with Cristiano Ronaldo after the La Liga season came to a conclusion at the weekend,” A statement on Liverpool’s official website read.
