Aston Villa’s results in their opening eight games have been well below their owner’s and fans’ expectations after their impressive end to last season.
In the latter stages of last season, Tim Sherwood led Aston Villa to Premier League safety and an FA Cup final with an impressive run of victories. The English manager had the side playing an impressive brand of football with speedy wing play and a balance that had been absent from Aston Villa for many seasons.
Despite losing the key duo of Fabian Delph and Christian Beneteke in the summer, Villa invested in the transfer market bringing plenty of new quality to Villa Park giving an air of positivity amongst the Villa faithful.
With their new found positivity, many expected the Villa to pick up where they left off last season.
Unfortunately for Tim Sherwood and Aston Villa this has not been the case.
After eight games, Aston Villa sit 18th on the Premier League table with only one win and one draw to their name. These results have left Villa’s owner and fans disappointed, especially following the heavy investment in the summer.
The overall frustration of the Villa’s start to the season is leaving the board increasingly frustrated with Tim Sherwood as they ramp up the pressure on the Villa manager to perform.
Sherwood has not been oblivious to the scrutiny surrounding his job having openly acknowledging that he is under pressure to perform. However, the Villa boss’s job is hanging on a thread now as the board have issued him with a deadline to perform.
Reports from The Metro newspaper claim that Sherwood has been given as two-game deadline to turn around results if he is to remain at the helm at Villa Park. With the next two fixtures being Chelsea and Swansea, Sherwood will need his squad to be at their very best if he is to keep his job.
If Sherwood was to be sacked, The Englishman would become the third manager to lose their job this Premier League season following Dick Advocaat and Brendan Rodgers.
However, in a further twist to this story, The Sun newspaper reported that Sherwood’s replacement would mean the return of the recently sacked Brendan Rodgers.
The Northern Irishman is currently linked to several clubs across England however, Randy Lerner is looking to snap up the former Liverpool boss.
Villa’s upcoming fixtures against Chelsea and Swansea are must-win for Tim Sherwood if he is to keep his job at Villa Park. If he is to be the man to lead the club going forward, he needs his players to be at their very best as they look to not only save their season but to also save their manager’s job.
