Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez says that being handed the captain’s armband and the chance of winning trophies with this Manchester City squad helped his overcome his World Cup depression.
The striker confessed that he was about to quit football completely following the World Cup exit with Argentina in South Africa.
However, Tevez insisted that the possibility of winning titles at City and becoming the new captain of the club has re-ignited his love of the game, as he is ready to go again.
Tevez told The Mirror:
“I was a bit disillusioned after the World Cup because we thought we could go further.”
“I lost my motivation a little bit, but I’m delighted now because I’m at a great club with a chance to win things.”
“I’m very happy to be the new captain. I must say thank-you to the manager, the players and the fans.”
“As players we have only been together for the last two weeks and it’s not easy to gel together in such a short space of time.”
“But we are all great players at this club and eventually I know the team will come together and be good.”
“No player has his place in the side guaranteed and I must continue to work hard to keep my place.”
The Argentine, who won the European Cup with Manchester United in 2008, believes the Europa League is a very important league, and he hopes he can win titles with City as he did at Old Trafford.
“All the games are important and all the competitions are really important.”
“Now I hope I can win trophies with City like I did with United.”
