A goalkeeper’s best friend on the field are his gloves and you don’t make best friends with people (in this case: things) whom you’re not comfortable with. To be a good keeper, you need to find the pair of gloves that suit you the best.
Sure, you can keep wearing any gloves, you can also play with any football shoes but you don’t. You choose the shoe that suits you the best, that you feel the most comfortable with. Similarly, you have you choose the glove that suits you the best and you are the most comfortable with.
Being a university goalkeeper myself, I’ve worn only two sets of keeping gloves in my entire career (just over four years to be exact). The first were a pair of really cheap gloves that I picked up randomly off the nearest market in a hurry. I wore them in every game and I got comfortable with them but I knew they weren’t good enough.
Then, I got hold of the Diadora Campioni Goalkeeping Gloves. They were a huge improvement on what I had before. Super-soft 3mm latex palm and wrapped thumb, elastic wrap around the wrist and extremely reliable. I had found my match. I felt very confident and comfortable in those gloves.
Then recently, I was given these Garda gloves to try out. Sitting in front of my computer, when I first put them on I thought the fingers of the gloves were a bit fatter than usual (probably in comparison to the Diadora’s).
Took them for a test to a match. I felt the confidence of the same grip that I first felt with the Diadora gloves and because of the slightly fatter fingers, my finger tips were all the more stable.
Fabric net on the backside of the hand allows for air to reach your hand and not make things too hot and sweaty inside the gloves. On top of that, it had the elastic wrap around the wrist, super-soft latex palm and wrapped thumb to give you the extra grip and control you need.
The black and yellow colors of the gloves are quite distinctive – not that the colors help but the gloves look really nice. The palm of the glove is plain white.
