Tampa Bay Buccaneers Snap Up Veteran Wide Receiver Julio Jones on One-Year Contract

Julio Jones, who will be vying to rebound from a down season with the Tennessee Titans, joins a sparkling line up of WR’s in Tampa.

The 33-year-old, who is both a seven-time Pro Bowl and two-time All Pro wide receiver had a less than favourable season in the Volunteer State.

He registered just 31 catches for 434 yards and one touchdown in 10 games – certainly a far cry from the numerous 1,000-yard receiving seasons during his career with the Atlanta Falcons.

Despite this, Jones’ 13,330 career receiving yards is by far and away the most among active players across the NFL, and the 91.9 yards per game average still an existing record.

Tampa now have an incredible roster of threatening WR’s which includes arguably the league’s best duo in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, while they have also added Russel Gage, a fellow former Falcon, in the off-season to form a dazzling line up. The one-year contract given to their latest acquisition suggests he will provide some much needed cover for Godwin as he recovers from a nasty ACL tear last season.

Jones leads the NFL in receiving yards since 2014, while Evans has the most touchdown catches, 75, during that time span. Add to this Tom Brady, who despite nearing 45 years of age will be licking his lips at Tampa’s receivers, and fans have been quick to comment on his wide array of offensive options for the upcoming season.

Brady was famously part of the New England Patriots side that mounted a spectacular comeback at Super Bowl LI in 2016, while Julio Jones was on the losing side that day; he will now have the opportunity to form a potentially deadly partnership with a wealth of experience at hand.
