Cardiff rampant, Mowbray arrives and promises sunshine while Eriksson tempts Beckham

Cardiff cruise to victory at Elland Road

While Leeds may be going through a tough patch, Cardiff’s 4-0 win was still an impressive signal of intent. They have scored exactly the same number of goals as QPR (25) but, with Bellamy, Bothroyd, Chopra and Whittingham, they definitely have the better attacking unit.

Bothroyd is the key. If you were to design a Championship centre-forward, he would look like big Jay; quick, powerful and with a deadly finish. He has never looked in better form.

Time for Tony

“We need to turn this big steamer around and start heading back to the sunshine”. Tony Mowbray’s appointment will be important for reconnecting with the fans; seeing a club legend at the helm might tempt back many who have lost faith.

There will be an instant improvement in results but it isn’t clear how far this improvement can go. While Boro should be too good to be involved in a relegation scrap, this squad doesn’t have the quality that everyone thought. Barring a big January spend, mid-table security will be as good as it gets this year.

The David and Sven show

Sven’s arrival at Leicester was always going to spawn plenty of silly transfer rumours, with the possible arrival of Beckham so far the silliest of the bunch. We do, however, now have confirmation from the Swede that he will be splashing the cash around in January.

Does he look to get hold of big names or does he settle for top Championship players? He certainly has much better personal knowledge of the former. If the Foxes are within ten points of the play-offs by January, an upgraded squad would have every chance of closing the gap.
