Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is eager to make a move for the 20-year-old German star in the January transfer window but faces competition from cross town rivals Arsenal. Although Schalke 04, the player’s parent club, is not willing to sell their star midfielder, but it is understood that a price in the region of £25million would be enough to enter into a negotiation table with the German club.

Draxler has signed a new contract with the German club recently that would keep him till 2018 at the Veltins Arena. However, we all know that these contracts mean nothing (ask Gareth Bale) and it is used as a weapon to get a price-hike in the transfer market.

However, despite Chelsea’s interest, as claimed by the paper, logically Arsenal should have the upper hand in the race to sign him.

Finance – The Gunners like Chelsea have no shortage of funds. This summer, they’ve proved that they’re willing to spend big for world class players. Draxler is touted as the next-big-thing in Germany and Wenger could be tempted to spend money on him as well.

German contingent –  Arsenal have a strong pool of Germany players at the moment. It is always good to have few players from the same nation – easy to adapt, convince someone etc – which might prompt Draxler to choose the Gunners over Chelsea.

Ozil factor – Draxler has the best blue-print in front of him in the form of Mesut Ozil, should he need to make any decision. The German star after leaving Real Madrid has made an instant impact at Arsenal.

Wenger’s legacy with youngsters – Arsenal under Wenger have a legacy of turning raw talented stars to world class players. The chances of getting regular games at a big club is more for him than at Chelsea, where there is an avalanche of stars stocked at the club on the positions he usually plays.
