West Ham United have submitted a bid for West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

According to The Athletic, the Hammers want to sign the 28-year-old as a potential replacement for Lukasz Fabianski.

However, the Baggies have turned the offer down and want more than £10 million for Johnstone.

Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the situation as they strive to find a quality long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.

West Brom have been relegated to the Championship, and Johnstone will want to return to the Premier League.

He needs to play in the top flight to push for a starting berth for England, having been part of the squad at the recent European Championships.

The Hammers can offer the player Europa League football next season, potentially giving them an edge in the transfer chase.

However, they have been in talks with Paris Saint-Germain’s Alphonse Areola, so the reported offer for Johnstone is a little surprising.

With Spurs traditionally recognised as a bigger club, they may be a more appealing proposition for Johnstone.

He has a contract with West Brom until 2022, and the Baggies are under pressure to sell him in the coming weeks.

They could lose him for free next summer, and that would represent bad business sense now they have dropped into the second tier.
