Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky is set to sign a new contract extension at the club, with Arsene Wenger ‘adamant’ that the Czech international must stay in North London.

The 33-year-old has endured some hard times at the club, with a series of problematic injures ensuring a stuttering career. Indeed, Rosicky missed the entire 2008/09 season with a hamstring tendon injury.

Mercifully for him, he has seemingly got past the injury years, and has really blossomed, proving to be a valuable addition to the squad due to his drive, discipline and experience.

“Tomas Rosicky will stay,” Wenger said on Sunday, “We have an agreement with him and it will come out soon. “I am absolutely adamant he has to stay at the club.

Rosicky, who scored a sublime third for the Gunners in the 4-1 win over Sunderland yesterday, has been at the club since 2006, playing over 200 games.

Rosicky, nicknamed the ‘Little Mozart’ due to his ability to orchestrate the midfield, became the most expensive Czech player of all time when Arsenal signed him from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of €14.5m, and Wenger appreciates the tactical evolution he has undergone during his time in England,

“When he arrived, he was less a tactical player and more the Mozart from Prague,” continued Wenger,

“He was purely a creative, offensive player. But today, he is a real organiser as well. He gives a real structure to the team,”

“He is one of the players who plays the game of give-and-move and he is a great accelerator of the game,”

He always makes things happen, not with individual dribbling but with individual acceleration of his passing and his runs. His goal was one of the top goals we have scored.”
