New Orleans Saints Free Agency 2022
As with each franchise during every NFL offseason, there has been a merry-go-round of ins and outs down at the Dome since February. From a betting perspective, it’s not relevant to list every Saints move during the free-agency period, but the main transactions are listed below:

The departures of offensive lineman Terron Armstead and all-action safety Marcus Williams are the big losses for the Saints this offseason. Armstead is a 3x Pro Bowler and as good a door opener as there is in the NFL.
Williams featured heavily in the Saints secondary last season, amassing 77 combined tackles and 2 interceptions for Dennis Allen’s much-heralded defense.

Not wanting to downgrade the secondary with the departure of M.Williams and the retirement of M.Jenkins, coach Allen struck quickly by snapping up M.Maye and D.Sorensen early in free agency.
Maye endured a tough 2021 campaign with the Jets. The safety struggled with injury and had to contend with a lingering DUI and faltering contract negotiations. The season prior, however, Maye was PFF’s 3rd highest-ranked safety and was close to Pro Bowl honors.
Sorensen, a Super Bowl winner with the Chiefs in 2020, appeared to lose a step last season, but his experience and leadership make him a fine stop-gap replacement for M.Jenkins. At least he would have been…
Late in the spring, the Saints added LSU favorites S Tyrann “Honey Badger” Mathieu and WR Jarvis Landry. Mathieu, a Super Bowl winner alongside Sorensen in 2019/20, returns to his spiritual home to reignite the Saints secondary and should slot right in. Landry, alongside the fit-again Michael Thomas, will bolster a receiving corps that was ravaged by injury for much of the previous campaign.

WR Chris Olave proved himself a vertical threat throughout his tenure at Ohio State, chalking up 2,702-yards and 35 TDs over his four-year stint with the Buckeyes. He will add an extra dimension to the Saints passing attack and someone for Saints QB J.Winston to seek out with the deep ball.
Much of the Saints’ success this season hinges on No.19 overall pick Trevor Penning. The Northern Iowa product will be expected to fill T.Armstead’s size 13s on the offensive line. Penning’s task should be made easier by the return of fellow OL 1x All-Pro Ryan Ramczyk.
