Frankie Dettori Breeders’ Cup 2022 Rides

4:29 – Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (Grade 1) (3yo+) (Turf) (3yo+) 5½f ITV4

CAMPANELLE @ 12/1 with Bet365 was a Royal Ascot winner in 2021 when taking the Commonwealth Cup and a certain Frankie Dettori was also riding this Wesley Ward-trained US-based horse that day.

Now a 4 year-old, this useful sprinter was last seen winning a G3 at Kentucky Downs on Sept 10 over 6 1/2f, while earlier this year was a winner of the Listed Giant’s Causeway Stakes at Keeneland, so we know this speedy mare acts well at the Kentucky track.

Her only previous Breeders’ Cup run was in the Juvenile Fillies Turf in 2020, where she finished a respectable fourth. On Saturday, she looks to have the UK runner Highfield Princess and another Wesley Ward runner, Golden Pal, who won this race 12 months ago, to beat – but Frankie’s mount, with a nice draw in 4, still rates a fair each-way alternative in a contest that does seen to lack a bit of depth.

5:50 – Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (Grade 1) (3yo+ Fillies & Mares) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m1½f ITV4

MOIRA @ 16/1 with Bet365 was last seen running second in the Grade 1 E P Taylor Stakes at Woodbine in Canada, but was demoted to 8th that day after causing interference. Prior to that run she’d won twice at Woodbine so is a filly that knows how to get the job done.

However, those runs did come in lower-graded races than she’s tackling on Saturday and drawn wide in 12 isn’t ideal. She’ll need a bit of Frankie magic in the saddle to overcome that berth, but this is a race Dettori has won twice in the past so you never know!

The John Gosden-trained Nashwa, with Hollie Doyle is the clear favourite in the race as she looks to add to her Nassau Stakes win at Glorious Goodwood back in the summer. We’ve also a strong Irish presence in the race with the Joseph O’Brien-trained Above The Curve and this season’s Epsom Oaks heroine Tuesday for Aidan O’Brien also entered.

7:10 – FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile presented by Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund (Grade 1) (3yo+) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m ITV4

KINROSS @ 10/3 with Bet365 looks to be one of Frankie Dettori’s best chances of a Breeders’ Cup winner this year. This fast-improving Ralph Beckett runner was won his last four – all with Frankie riding – including last time out when taking the British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot (watch below).

He’s been doing his winning over 6f and 7f this season, but is stepping back up to a mile this Saturday. However, he’s a winner over this trip in the past and the way he’s been running on well over 7f (in soft) ground suggest this extra yardage is within range.

In a race that’s dominated by the UK runners, Kinross will have Godolphin’s Modern Games and the Ed Walker-trained Dreamloper as big rivals.

8:40 – Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf (Grade 1) (3yo+) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m4f ITV4: MISHRIFF @ 6/1 with Bet365 will be hoping to give Frankie Dettori a remarkable sixth winner in this race. On his day Mishriff can certainly mix it with the best of them in this sphere – last year he was a 6 length winner of the Juddmonte International Stakes at York and over his career has won a whopping £11.7m.

However, Mishriff has not won a race since that day so has a fair bit to prove at the moment. He’s no stranger to running outside the UK, having won the 2021 Saudi Cup, plus running in France and Dubai, but this will be his first outing in the US.

On a plus, Frankie has won on the horse in the past and connections are reaching for the first-time blinkers to try and spark him back to life after running down the field in the Arc at Longchamp early last month. So, yes, he’s certainly capable of winning this race it might require some Frankie magic.
