This year’s PGA Championship will be played just Southeast of Rochester in Pittsford, New York, where the Oak Hill Country Club is situated.

It has frequently been used down the years for various major tournaments, include three US Opens, the Ryder Cup and now what will be the fourth PGA Championship on this course.

The club’s East Course, which is where major tournaments have historically been held, was ranked 22nd in Golf Digest‘s list of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses.

Course Details and Layout

It has been a decade since Oak Hill saw Jason Dufner claim the PGA Championship, and much has changed in that time span as course officials set in motion a restoration project in 2019, 100 years after Donald Ross’ masterpiece was opened in the 1920’s.

Characterised by scatterings of leafy woodlands, sweeping fairways and imposing bunker layouts, the recent re-design saw the layout change drastically to better match Ross’ original blueprint, with greens being entirely rebuilt and repurposed.

Those lucky enough to have sampled the new course have described it as ‘firm and fast,’ with others admitting it is the ‘fairest, but most difficult course on the major circuit.’

With 99 of the top 100 players expected to line-up in New York this week, the strongest field among any of the major tournaments will certainly have their abilities tested the absolute limit.
