Join us as we put the latest PGA Championship odds under the microscope, which sees Jon Rahm favoured to complete three-quarters of a career grand slam.

Much like the season’s first major last month, attempting to decipher the leading names in the field is proving increasingly difficult for golf bettors.

The PGA Championship takes this perception a little further, and is undoubtedly the most challenging major to win given there are no amateur players – in this year’s 156-man field, 99 of the world’s top 100 competitors are heading to New York’s Oak Hill course.

Last year’s champion Justin Thomas (25/1) prevailed after a thrilling playoff with Will Zalatoris, who misses out this year due to a injury that will likely see him sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Thomas will be vying to become only the sixth player to clinch three PGA Championship titles, and become the first repeat winner since Brook Koepka (22/1) in 2019.

Koepka himself also has leading claims having won consecutive titles, and his masterful showing at the Masters last month, where he finished runner-up to Jon Rahm (15/2), makes him the best positioned LIV Golf member heading into the week.

The frontrunners are largely comprised of the same names we saw as pre-tournament favourites in the lead-up to Augusta, with eventual champion Rahm the bookmaker’s leader.

The Spaniard has enjoyed a spectacular 2023, topping the world rankings after registering four wins out of a possible 11, which sees him ahead of 2022 Masters champion and recent Players winner Scottie Scheffler, who is marginally behind in the markets at 8/1.

Elsewhere, Rory McIlroy’s (12/1) alarming slump in form over the past few months has many observers questioning his latest bid to end a near-decade long major drought, with his last title coming in this tournament in 2014. Although he is among the top three favourites, he missed the cut at both the Players Championship and the Masters, both of which he was heavily fancied for.

Former winners Jason Day (25/1), Colin Morikawa (30/1) and Phil Mickelson (175/1) have the tournament know-how in order to compete in the upper echelons, while Xander Schauffele (20/1), Tony Finau (22/1) and Dustin Johnson (25/1) are all listed in the top 10 in the current PGA Championship odds market.
