Sevilla have won their seven Europa League after beating Roma on penalties. The dramatic and feisty final ended with a penalty shoot out.

The battle for the Europa League was an intriguing one. Sevilla have never lost a Europa League final and Jose Mourinho has won all five European finals he has managed in.

Paulo Dybala opened the scoring for the Italian team. He was slid through and slotted the ball home. This came after Mourinho suggested Dybala was only fit enough to play 20 to 30 minutes.

Gianluca Mancini, who set up the Roma’s goal, then looked in despair as he scored an own goal in the 55th minute.

As you’d expect from a Mourinho team, Roma sat back, allowing Sevilla to dominate the game.

Roma received six yellow cards in the game. Their six cards broke the record for most cards in a Europa League final. Although this was closely rivalled by Sevilla who received five.

Former Premier League man, Chris Smalling, almost won the game for Roma in the final moments of extra time. Smalling’s header hit the crossbar but went wide.

With the game level after extra time, it was penalties that decided who would be in the Champions League next season.

It was the Europa League specialists, Sevilla, that claimed the trophy. The La Liga side beat Roma 4-1 on penalties after the Serie A team missed two penalties.
