The FA has begun delving deeper into the altercation between Arsenal’s Gabriel and Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson during Sunday’s Premier League clash.

The governing body will begin their investigation by speaking to both players, who were seen exchanging unpleasantries in a blazing row, prompting further heated reactions from teammates.

In the aftermath, on-field referred Michael Oliver made his way over to the touchline to speak with both Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta, with the latter raising his eyebrows on more than one occasion, although we are still none the wiser as to what he told the managerial duo.

Later, Oliver would interview both players after Arsenal, who are 7/1 to finish as champions in current football betting, secured a 3-2 victory with the transcripts of the discussions handed over to the FA.

A statement released by the FA said: “We are aware of an incident that took place during the match between Arsenal and Liverpool.

“We are in dialogue with the match officials and will review the details of the incident.”

Representatives from both clubs, the players themselves and the FA have so far provided little indication as to what may have transpired, although the belief is Gabriel has lodged a complaint against Henderson over a comment the England midfielder made during the altercation.

The initial steps of any investigation take substantial amount of time as the FA collate all necessary accounts of the ordeal, which could include fellow players and officials who were close enough to hear what may have been said.

A lip reader may also be brought in, as has been the case with similar investigations in the past, to attempt to decipher the conversation or confirm any accounts given.

Henderson was in line to speak to the press following the defeat but was taken off interviews while both Klopp and Arteta declined to comment on the matter, fuelling the Twitter storm further with fans speculating as what led to the exchange.
