Reece James has been forced to withdraw from the England squad for their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers, with new injury concerns ending the full-back’s international break prematurely.

James was expected to feature against Ukraine for England on Sunday however the full-back has withdrawn from the squad after suffering from yet another injury setback.

Gareth Southgate is yet to call up a replacement for James, who made a brief appearance off the bench during the Three Lions’ win against Italy.

The FA have said that James will return to London for an “assessment of an ongoing issue”, so it is unclear right now how serious the injury is for the 23-year old.

Having only just made his return from a hamstring injury last weekend against Everton, the England international will be disappointed to be sidelined by the same problem just one week on.

James has struggled to keep fit all season and a knee injury that he picked up in October kept him out of England’s World Cup which eventually ended in disappointment.

Unfortunately for James his club side are also suffering from a disappointing season, as Chelsea are currently tenth in the Premier League with just 11 games left to play.

A draw against struggling Everton last weekend has certainly not helped the Blues hopes in the league and their sole focus will now be on the Champions League for the remainder of the season.

The Champions League quarter final will be the only thing on James’ mind as his injury is assessed over the coming days and with the daunting challenge of Real Madrid coming up in April, the Chelsea star will be fighting against time to get fit for an unmissable game.
