MALAGO ROSE (system – Malinas, Southwell jumps, 2m4f+)
Progeny of the sire Malinas tend to improve over jumps when given a trip of at least 2m4f and they certainly perform well over the longer distances at Southwell, landing nine of their 39 starts for a profit of £27.48 to a £1 level stake at SP. Five of the beaten horses finished second (28-1, 16-1, 7-1, 4-1 and 3-1) and six more ran third (14-1, 12-1, 10-1, 8-1, 11-2 and 3-1), suggesting that an each-way bet on Simon Earle’s outsider MALAGO ROSE could pay dividends.

LEADING COMPANY (system – John Quinn, first-time visor, Flat turf, recent run)
In the past ten years, John Quinn has a nine from 40 record with first-time visored runners who had raced within the past month and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £24.30 to a £1 level stake at SP. LEADING COMPANY scored twice on fast ground in blinkers last summer and can get back to winning ways in the new headgear.
LINGFIELD 8.10
KNIGHT OF KINGS (system – John Butler, first-time blinkers or tongue-tie)
John Butler runners in first-time headgear are always worth a second look and he shows a profit when using first-time blinkers or a tongue-tie. KNIGHT OF KINGS, the mount of Neil Callan, gets both in this 1m4f handicap and is worth a small interest despite a modest effort at Kempton last time.
