Andrew has four stats-based selections at Chelmsford (all-weather) and Stratford (jumps) on Thursday, August 31st. Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below:

CHELMSFORD 2.25

CELTIC WARRIOR (system – Andrew Balding, second-time out 2yos, beaten by 10L or less on debut)

Andrew Balding has a solid record with second-time out juveniles who were beaten by ten lengths or less on their debuts, scoring with 99 of the 404 qualifiers (24.5% strike-rate) for a profit of £74.04 to a £1 level stake at SP. CELTIC WARRIOR wasn’t best drawn when a 15-2 sixth at Leicester on his debut earlier this month and he wasn’t helped by patient tactics on that pace-favouring track. The Saxon Warrior colt will know plenty more today and Oisin Murphy takes over from David Probert.

CHELMSFORD 3.25

KESSAAR POWER (system – Kevin Philippart De Foy, first-time headgear, all-weather handicaps)

KESSAAR POWER won 6f handicaps at Chelmsford/Yarmouth on his first two starts for Kevin Philppart De Foy back in the spring but has gone off the boil since. He trailed home last of seven in a 6f Nottingham handicap earlier this month, but the addition of a first-time visor could help him top bounce back to form. His trainer has a seven from 29 record with first-time headgear in all-weather handicaps for a profit of £14.63 to a £1 level stake at SP.

CHELMSFORD 3.55

LAERTES (system – Mick Appleby stable switchers)

Mick Appleby has a great record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers, scoring with 96 of the 546 qualifiers (17.6% strike-rate) for a huge profit of £311.52 to a £1 level stake at SP. LAERTES drew a blank in ten starts for Mick and David Easterby but has shown ability on more than one occasion, including a modest third at Wolverhampton last time, and can get off the mark today.

STRATFORD 6.30

BUCKO’S BAY (system – Midnight Legend hurdlers, second run after a wind operation)

Progeny of the sire Midnight Legend have a solid record over hurdles on their second run after wind surgery, landing 11 of their 58 starts (19%) for a profit of £22.98 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those who were running in handicap hurdles over 2m4f or further were six from 23 for a profit of £43.50. BUCKO’S BOY returned form a wind operation with a smooth success at Bangor at the start of this month and can follow up.
