He kept on strongly to finish just half a length back in third place behind two rivals who raced up with the pace throughout, The Adrian Nicholls-trained gelding had four and a half lengths to spare over the next hold-up horse to finish – fifth-pace Lochaber, who re-opposes today – and a clean break from his handy stall 8 of 9 draw could see him reverse the form with the Catterick winner TRAVEL CANDY. WOLVERHAMPTON JOCKEYS
The Tapeta at Wolverhampton behaves very differently in the summer months when the higher temperatures can cause the wax that binds the track together to melt, leading to a looser surface and more kickback. One jockey who copes well with the summer surface is HOLLIE DOYLE, whose record here from June to September, since 2018, stands at 33 winners from 134 rides (24.6% strike-rate) for a profit of £93.71 to a £1 level stake at SP. Doyle understands the need to race prominently but away from the inside rail, which is often slower than the centre of the course and it’s no coincidence that 24 of those 33 winners either made the running or raced close to the early pace. She has four mounts tonight – ARIZONA DESERT (6.00), WIND HOOFER (7.30), FIFTY YEAR STORM (8.00) and SPEED DIAL BAILEYS (8.30) – and a buy of her performance index with Spreadex could pay dividends.
