It’s very difficult to win from the front on Newcastle’s Tapeta surface, especially on the round course (distances of 1m2f or further). Newcastle’s jumps fixture opens with an all-weather bumper today (12.50) and it could be worth taking on likely pace angle and morning favourite JACK HYDE (5-2 with Spreadex at the time of writing). The five-year-old made the running when third in a point last October and did so again when a creditable 150-1 sixth of 13 in a Listed bumper at Cheltenham the following month. He also put pace to the race when a modest third in a Polytrack bumper at Lingfield last time and she’s there to be shot at again. The son of Soldier Of Fortune is bred to handle Tapeta but that running style is a major concern. Sell at 21 in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market.

FFOS LAS 1.05
ROGER RAREBIT, who started as the 15-8 favourite, looked awkward and reluctant when a modest third in first-time cheekpieces at Hereford last month. That took his career score to 0-9, with six of the defeats at odds of 4-1 or shorter. He’s also been well beaten in a first-time hood and connections have dipped into the dressing up cupboard once more and come up with a first-time visor today. Sell at 24 in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market.
Recommendation: Oppose ROGER RAREBIT in Ffos Las 1.05
