NEWCASTLE 1.09
Tim Easterby has a modest record with last-time out winners and I’m going to take on LIKE A LION in this mile handicap. The three-year-old, the 5-1 market leader at the time of writing, came late to score by a neck over 7f here last week on his return from a six-week break, but steps up in trip and grade and there’s every chance that this race will come too soon. His only other win came after 11 weeks off the track and his two previous runs at today’s trip resulted in unplaced efforts. Sell in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. Fixed odds punters might want to side with CLOCH NUA.
Recommendation: Oppose LIKE A LION in Newcastle 1.09
CHELTENHAM 2.25
The Grade 2 International Hurdle often goes to a five-year-old, or a last-time-out winner, or a horse who ran within the past four weeks. FIRST STREET and I LIKE TO MOVE IT both qualify on all three counts and, being numbers two and three on the racecard respectively, selling DOUBLE NUMBER OF WINNER with Spreadex could be the best way to take on eight-year-old EPATANTE, number five on the racecard and perhaps not the force of old.
Recommendation: Sell DOUBLE NUMBER OF WINNER in Cheltenham 2.25
CHELTENHAM 3.00
This three-mile Grade 2 novices’ hurdle has been a great race for five-year-olds, with eight of the last ten winners coming from this age group (+£17.83 to a £1 level stake at SP). In the same period, six-year-olds are just one from 26 and OUTLAW PETER, who won a very weak race at Exeter last time, looks too short at around the 2-1 mark. Sell in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. Fixed odds punters might want to side with five-year-old WEVEALLBEENCAUGHT who will relish the step up in trip.
Recommendation: Oppose OUTLAW PETER in Cheltenham 3.00
