BEECHWOOD STAR was a massive eyecatcher on his debut at Thirsk 12 day ago and can be supported to land this 6f restricted novice contest. It paid to race prominently against the nearside rail at Thirsk – odds-on winner Beyond Borders made most of the running from stall 8 of 8 – and Beechwood Star had the worst of the draw in stall 1. Regal Solitaire, drawn next door to him, resembled a bucking bronco rather than a racehorse and after misbehaving in the stalls he swerved left as they opened and carried Richard Fahey’s juvenile to the left, causing him to lose valuable ground. Oisin Orr’s mount had a mountain to climb after being switched to the nearside after a furlong and running green but kept on strongly in the closing stages to finish just two lengths behind the winner. He’s going to improve considerably for that initial experience and can be bought in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market.

NEWTON ABBOT 3.25
THIRTYFOURSTITCHES was sent off as the 6-4 favourite for a 2m4f Class 4 seniors’ handicap hurdle at Fakenham on April 13th when we last saw him, but had he trailed home 34 lengths behind the winner in third place after being taken on for the lead by Made For You. It’s also possible that the run came too soon, just 14 days after a runner-up effort in Class 3 company at Wincanton. When he won at Plumpton on February 13th his connections, when asked to explain the improvement (he’d pulled up at Fakenham six weeks earlier), said he had benefitted from a break. He’s been freshened up by a 98-day layoff since his latest disappointment and can bounce back this afternoon. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10
