At the time of writing CORRIGEEN ROCK was trading as the 2-1 favourite on the back of October’s game success at left-handed Kelso but he looks opposable now running right-handed. He tends to lose ground at his obstacles by jumping markedly out to his left and his record this way round reads 3F23F (0-5), with the last three defeats at odds of 11-4, 6-4 and 11-10f. Sell in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. Fixed odds punters might want to side with MISS AMELIA, whose chase record right-handed over trips of about two miles reads 11211 (4-5), with the defeat by just half a length.
Recommendation: Oppose CORRIGEEN ROCK in Sandown 2.55
SANDOWN JOCKEYS
SAM TWISTON-DAVIES has gone 0-32 in the past fortnight and could be worth taking on in the Spreadex SANDOWN JOCKEYS market. His chase rides have been underperforming for some time – he’s ridden 278 winners from 1635 winners over fences since the spring of 2016 (17% strike-rate) but the expected number of winners (based on their odds) was in excess of 303. His sole chase mount – ROSE SEA HAS (2.55) – looks up against it given the modest recent form of the Dr Richard Newland yard and he also rides 6-1 shot PLANET LEGEND over hurdles for the same stable in the 1.10. Neil Mulholland’s MOTHILL is more interesting in the 3.30, as the four-year-old raced on the slowest part of the track when fourth of 19 under Twiston-Davies at Cheltenham last time, but his prominent style could leave him vulnerable if the ground on the inside rail gets churned up and we have yet another one of those Sandown meetings when the hurdle winners challenge late/wide.
