It was a big advantage to race up with the pace in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at last month’s Cheltenham festival and the Willie Mullins-trained BRONN, third at 50-1, sat close-up in second place behind all-the-way winner The Real Whacker for much of the three-mile trip before weakening in the last half furlong. He was probably flattered by that performance and looks short enough in the betting in his bid to reverse the form with runner-up GERRI COLOMBE. Sell in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market.
Recommendation: Oppose BRONN in Aintree 1.45
AINTREE 3.30
Six of PIC D’ORHY’s seven best RPRs (Racing Post Ratings) have come on right-handed tracks and I’m not convinced that the return to Aintree – where he was pulled up at odds of 7-2 last year – will suit Paul Nicholls’ charge. He also disappointed in April 2021, finishing fourth of six at Sandown – and it’s possible that he’ll be over the top. Sell in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. Fixed odds punters might want to side with MILLERS BANK, an impressive winner at this meeting last term.
Recommendation: Oppose PIC D’ORHY in Aintree 3.30
AINTREE 5.15
WASHINGTON, who fared best of those to come from off the pace when third in this 2m handicap hurdle last year, can go two places better off a 3lb lower mark. This sometime-keen sort is ideally served by a big field/strong pace scenario and the first-time cheekpieces could help – since the start of 2021, trainer Olly Murphy is ten from 44 when using this headgear on a hurdler and backing all the qualifiers would have returned a profit of £31.58 to a £1 level stake at SP. Back him each-way with Spreadex or buy in the 50-30-20-10 market.
Recommendation: Back WASHINGTON in Aintree 5.15
