NEWMARKET 1.50

LIFTOFF & BATEMANS BAY (system – New Bay 2yos, 7f+, turf)

Juvenile progeny of the sire New Bay have a cracking record over 7f or further on turf, landing 30 of their 125 starts (24% strike-rate) in Britain and Ireland for a profit of £43.34. Both LIFTOFF and BATEMANS BAY qualify in the 1m2f Zetland Stakes and I’ve split my stake between the pair.

NEWMARKET 3.40

ROCK EAGLE (system – Ralph Beckett, first-time blinkers)

Ralph Beckett has a 23 from 97 record with his first-time blinkered runners since the start of 2016 and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £91.23 to a £1 level stake at SP. ROCK EAGLE, fifth of 34 in a more competitive renewal of the Cesarewitch two years ago, might be able to improve on that position in the headgear.

CHEPSTOW 4.37

SILVER SHADE (system – Milton Harris, first-time tongue-tie, handicaps)

Milton Harris has a good record with handicappers who are fitted with a first-time tongue-tie, scoring with six of the 24 qualifiers since 2010 for a profit of £21.50. Four of the last six to start at single-figure odds have scored and SILVER SHADE should fall into that category in this limited handicap hurdle.

CHELMSFORD 4.53

WALL STREET CRASH (system – Churchill, second-time out, top-four finish on debut)

Progeny of the sire Churchill have a poor record on their racecourse debuts, but they do exceptionally well at the second time of asking, especially those who showed ability by finishing in the top four on their first outing. WALL STREET CRASH finished a respectable second to 2-5 favourite Tribal Hunter at Hamilton on his debut and John Quinn’s juvenile is taken to go one better from a good draw in stall 3.
