Jockey Charles Bishop has shown fine tactical awareness in small-field contests and simply backing his mounts in fields of four or fewer runners runners, since the spring of 2016, would have found 23 winners from 61 bets (37.7% strike-rate) for a profit of £31.27 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 14.51, A/E = 1.59). At Brighton only his record is 111231 (4-6) for a profit of £8.33. THE PRINCES POET won by three and a half lengths in a field of six runners on his only previous visit to Brighton and can bounce back from last month’s disappointing effort at Bath.

Since the beginning of 2012, the Mark/Charlie Johnston yard has a 52 from 235 record (22.1% strike-rate) in 5f-6f sprints with juvenile fillies who making their racecourse debuts. Backing the all would have returned a very healthy profit of £78.61 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 37.9, A/E = 1.37). Since taking over the licence in his own name, Charlie Johnston is three from 11 on this angle (+£14.33) and MY CLEMENTINE can add to recent gains.
