Andrew kicks off a new week with a trio of stats-based selections at Chepstow’s evening meeting on Monday, July 10th. Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below:
CHEPSTOW 5.20
RAVEN’S APPLAUSE (system – Ed Dunlop, first-time visor, handicaps)
Ed Dunlop has a great recent record with his first-time visored runners in handicaps, scoring with seven of the 26 qualifiers since the start of last year. Backing them blind would have returned a profit of £30.83 to a £1 level stake at SP and RAVEN’S APPLAUSE, who was switched to challenge on the slowest part of the track by Josephine Gordon when last of seven at Leicester on his most recent outing, might do better in the headgear under Rossa Ryan.
CHEPSTOW 7.00
LYNWOOD LAD (system – Mayson, sprint handicaps on turf, fresh)
Progeny of the sire Mayson have a solid record in sprint (5f-6f) handicaps, especially when running fresh (after a break of at least six weeks). Backing all 241 qualifiers would have found 38 winners (15.8%) for a profit of £134.83 to a £1 level stake at SP. LYNWOOD LAD disappointed on his turf/handicap debut at Windsor in May but has been freshened up since and could surprise (18-1 at the time of writing) with his stable going well.
CHEPSTOW 7.35
ON EDGE (systems – Mayson, sprint handicaps on turf, fresh & Christopher Mason 5yo geldings)
ON EDGE qualifies as a bet for me on the same breeding angle as Lynwood Lad (see Chepstow 7.00) as well as on a trainer system. Christopher Mason tends to favour the slow-maturing types and had we back all his five-year-old geldings we’d have won seven of our 24 bets (29.2%) and made a profit of £6.75. ON EDGE, a 12-1 third at Windsor in April on his only previous five-year-old outing, could have plenty more to offer this year for his in-form handler.
