NEWBURY 3.40
MILANFORD (system – sire Milan, first run after a wind operation)
Syd Hosie’s MILANFORD ran respectably over an inadequate 2m trip at Hereford last time and the subsequent wind operation could bring about improvement. Progeny of his sire Milan have a great record first-time back after wind surgery, landing 22 of their 110 starts for a profit of £117.88 to a £1 level stake at SP. Hosie’s latest wind op recipient was Lieutenant Rocco, who won at 18-1.
HEREFORD 4.20
ROYAL MER (system – David Pipe hurdlers, first run after a wind operation)
Since the start of last year, David Pips is ten from 35 with hurdlers having their first outing after a wind operation for a profit of £32.03 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 4.13). ROYAL MER was beaten by 59 lengths at Uttoxeter in late January on his stable debut, but the wind operation could bring about improvement and he was nibbled at in the overnight betting.
NEWCASTLE 5.15
LITUUS (system – Grant Tuer, first-time blinkers)
Grant Tuer has only saddled nine runners in first-time blinkers but three of them won (7-1, 13-2 and 9-2) for a profit of £12.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. This is obviously a dangerously small sample size but five of the six beaten horses also made the frame and it could be worth chancing LITUUS at a big price in this 1m2f handicap. The four-year-old might have needed last month’s pair of course outings over 1m4f/1m after an absence and this in-between trip should suit.
