Premier League Table 2023: Aston Villa Third, Brentford Fourth Since the Turn of the Year

Premier League Table 2023

The Premier League table of 2023 so far sees the usual culprits at the top and bottom, but several surprise names further up the table highlight just how much of the season remains, with dismal downfalls and remarkable rises up the table still to be expected.

With the international break in full swing, Premier League fans can breathe a sigh of relief, regroup and prepare themselves for the final 10 games of the season.

In perhaps the most unpredictable top-flight season in recent memory, Manchester City’s title challengers have taken on a new form in the shape of Arsenal, who have traded places with a stuttering Liverpool side who remain seven points off a Champions League spot.

The Gunners have continued their sensational renaissance into the new year, picking up more points than anyone since returning from the World Cup break. They are eight points ahead of Manchester City at the time of writing, although they still face the tall order of picking up points away from home against Newcastle, Liverpool and the champions themselves.

Elsewhere, the likes of Brentford, who rank fourth in the 2023 table, as well as Newcastle (13th) and Brighton (sixth) continue to push for European football and rival the established ‘big six’, with Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool far from convincing this term.

But as we take a closer look at the Premier League table of 2023 so far, the award for the biggest overachievers undoubtedly goes to Aston Villa, who find themselves in third place having picked up 20 points from their 11 fixtures.

Since taking over at the helm, former Arsenal manager Unai Emery has transformed his side into a defensively sound, yet dangerous attacking unit, which has seen their dismal early-season form flipped on its head.

With three wins in their last four, they are level on points with 10th-placed Chelsea, and a late push for a European spot may well be on the cards should results go in their favour elsewhere.

Manchester United, who have picked up more wins than any other team on the continent this year, find themselves all the way down in seventh after seeing their title push slip out of reach.  Nevertheless, they remain in contention for a treble of trophies having already claimed the Carabao Cup last month.

At the other end of the table, both Leeds and Leicester have only managed to find eight points from their previous 10 which sees them in 2023’s relegation zone. In reality, the duo find themselves two and one point above the drop zone respectively, but the battle of survival is the most competitive it has been in years with five points separating 20th-placed Bournemouth and 12th-placed Crystal Palace.

Speaking of Palace, they are 2023’s biggest losers having registered just five points from their last 12, winning zero fixtures in the process. This ultimately forced the Eagles into parting ways with now-ex manager Patrick Vieira, and returning manager Roy Hodgson will attempt to steady the ship until the end of the season as the grand old age of 75.
