Novak Djokovic has won his 10th Australian Open with a victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas to equal Rafael Nadal’s all-time record for most Grand Slam men’s singles titles with 22.

Just a year after being controversially deported from the country due to his vaccine status, he has reclaimed his world No. 1 ranking by winning the tournament in Melbourne with a  6-3 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) victory.

It was an emotional moment for the legend of the sport as he won in style.

Despite fearing a hamstring injury may have forced him to pull out all together prior, Djokovic only dropped one set all tournament, finishing with a superb win over first-time Melbourne finalist Tsitsipas.

Djokovic is now the fifth player to win 22 Grand Slam singles titles, after Margaret Court (24), Serena Williams (23) and Steffi Graf and Rafael Nadal both on 22.

He shared a moment with his family after the gruelling match. “It’s been a long journey, but a very special one,” said Djokovic.

“I played some of my best tennis honestly in Australian Open. The fourth round, quarter-final, semi-finals, just really comfortable on the court, hitting the ball great.”
