According to reports, Newcastle are leading the race to sign Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney.

Football Insider claim that the Magpies are preparing for a major squad overhaul this summer ahead of their return to Champions League football.

Tierney is believed to be a top target of the Tyneside club, but they are likely to face competition from other Premier League sides.

Manchester City, as well as Aston Villa are also reportedly interested in a move for the out-of-favour Scotsman.

It is said that Tierney would like to move closer to his native Glasgow, therefore a move to the North East may be his preferred option.

Newcastle’s qualification for the Champions League is also a factor for the 25-year-old, who is said to be excited to return to action in Europe’s premier competition.

Following the arrival of Oleksandar Zinchenko, Tierney has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates.

Injuries have also hampered his time with Arsenal, as well as this season in general, contributing to him making just 15 starts for the Gunners this term.

In those 15 starts, he’s completed a full 90 minutes just six times.

He joined Arsenal from Celtic for £25million back in 2019, making a total of 121 appearances, scoring five goals and assisting 14 times since.

His time in the English capital will largely be remembered as a disappointment, having been considered a top prospect ahead of his move from the Celts.
