Nathan Ake confirmed he picked up a hamstring injury in Manchester City’s Champions League draw with Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, but hopes it’s not too bad.

The Dutchman went down in some discomfort half way through the quarter-final clash in Munich. However, he’s hoping it won’t keep him out for too long, with some crucial fixtures on the horizon.

Ake was seen to be holding the back of his leg and icing it on the bench after he was subbed off.

He confirmed it was a hamstring issue after the game, but was confident it wasn’t as serious as previous issues with his hamstring.

Ake was speaking after the game.

“I’ve had it before and it feels a little bit less to be honest, but you never know with these things, so we will do the ultrasounds and stuff tomorrow and then hopefully it’s not too bad,”

With Pep Guardiola’s side chasing a treble, the injury certainly comes at the wrong time. The Citizens progressed through to the last four in the Champions League last night, and also have an FA Cup semi-final this coming weekend against Sheffield United.

Guardiola was also speaking after the game and was speaking on fixture congestion with such a quick turnaround before the semi-final at Wembley. The injury to Ake likely influenced these comments.

“Every time we play FA Cup after this competition we are exhausted,” he told BT Sport.

“The team is exhaused, so I don’t know how we are going to recover to play against Sheffield because we play on Saturday. We cannot play on Sunday, because of course United have Europa League.

“It’s so demanding, so I don’t know how we will arrive because now is a tough moment for the game on Saturday.”
