Moises Caicedo has returned to Brighton training following a whirlwind transfer window, which almost saw the midfielder join Arsenal.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Caicedo was the highlight of the transfer window as the Gunners made a series of bids throughout January. Brighton stood firm and rejected every attempt to take the 21-year-old from the club and even fought off interest from the Premier League’s biggest spenders, Chelsea.

The players representatives posted a message on social media where they made their thoughts on the transfer very clear.

The post said: ” I am grateful to Brighton. I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club. I hope fans they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity”.

However, the clubs failed to reach an agreement and after the Seagulls lost Leandro Trossard to the Gunners, Roberto De Zerbi’s side may have been reluctant to lose another.

The Ecuador international has now re-joined the squad after missing the last few days of the window to try and pus the transfer over the line. Brighton owner, Tony Bloom, reassured Caicedo that he could still play a massive role in what could be a special season for the Seagulls.

Brighton are expecting a lot of interest in Caicedo in the summer, with UK betting sites pricing him as a 6/4 favourite to finally join Arsenal. However, many other clubs will be looking at the midfielder, making it even harder for Brighton to keep their star man.
