Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has said that the Gunners have a “promising plan” in place for this summer’s transfer window to ensure they “nail” it.

The Premier League runners-up are determined to invest in their squad after falling short to Manchester City in the title race.

Arsenal could spend as much as £200 million on new players, with West Ham United captain Declan Rice their No1 target.

The club are looking to bolster their midfield with at least two new players, and are also interested in a new centre-back and potentially a new forward.

Mikel Arteta Quotes

Arteta was speaking in Friday’s press conference ahead of the Gunners’ final game of the season against Wolves.

“We have to nail everything that we do and we have to seek excellence in everything that we touch and participate in, to have a big impact at the club.

“I think the competition is going to be even harder than this season. In my opinion, it’s been the hardest of the 22 years that I’ve been in this league.

“In order to do that, we have a really promising plan. We may have to reflect a little bit, take a step back, make sure this is the right one and go again with more determination and hunger in the tummies to do even better.”

Arsenal and Arteta are huge fans of Declan Rice, but the north Londoners face strong competition to sign the England international. Manchester United, City and Chelsea are all interested.
