Marcel Sabitzer has suffered yet another injury setback this season, as the Manchester United midfielder was forced to miss Austria training this week with another knock.

Manchester United’s Marcel Sabitzer scored his first goal for Manchester United just before the international break and the midfielder continued his good form on the International stage for Austria.

Sabitzer captained Austria to a 4-1 win against Azerbaijan on Friday and with two goals and an assist, there was no question who the man of the match was.

Unfortunately Sabitzer picked up a knock late on Friday and was substituted in the final minutes of the game to a standing ovation for his man of the match display.

The knock to Austria’s talisman meant that he was forced to sit out of the final training session before Monday’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Estonia, however manager Ralf Rangnick is optimistic his star midfielder can recover in time.

‘In the end, it is a question of pain and pain tolerance for both Marcel and Gernot [Trauner],’ Ragnick said.

‘Of course, we hope that Marcel will do well, especially after that first game in Linz. At the moment, I’m optimistic that it can work but, at the end of the day, it’s also a question of whether Marcel feels ready for it himself. At the moment, I am assuming he’ll play.

‘It made more sense to leave them out [of the session] again, just to give them one more day. But there are enough other candidates.’

Casemiro received a straight red in a Premier League fixture against Southampton two weeks ago that will see the Brazilian miss the next three United games after the International break, with Sabitzer in line to start.

Christian Eriksen is close to making a return for the Red Devils however Erik Ten hag still believes his Danish midfielder needs more time to recover, so Sabitzer can be expected to start against Newcastle next weekend should he remain fit.
