Manchester United released a statement on Friday in which they said they have “Initiated appropriate steps” in response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.

When speaking to Morgan on TalkTV Ronaldo said that he had “no respect” for manager Erik ten Hag and believes he is being forced out of the club. He also went on to make a number of other allegations such as senior executives lacked empathy after his newborn son died in April and that the owners, the Glazer family, do not care about the club.

According to media reports, United are exploring the possibility of sacking Ronaldo, and terminating his contract – which expires in July.

The Portuguese forward is set to lead his country out at the 2022 Qatar World Cup which gets underway on Sunday. Portugal play against Ghana in their opening Group H game on Thursday.

It’s believed that Ronaldo has been told not to return to United’s training complex Carrington after his participation in the World Cup over the next month.
