The North London side have the third best defensive record in the top-flight this season, and much of that is down to Saliba and Gabriel’s solidity at the back.

Brazilian Gabriel has been in the side since 2020, and played a big role since. Meanwhile Saliba is currently in his breakthrough season with Arsenal, after having three loan spells away in the past few seasons.

Kolo Toure Arsenal Quotes

Kolo Toure was part of Arsenal’s last Premier League winning team, and had plenty of praise for Saliba and Gabriel.

“I’ve been impressed with them because their partnership only started this year.

“They gel very well together.

“But for me when a team defends well it’s not just the two defenders. It’s the squad and Arsenal are a squad well drilled by the manager.

“Everybody works hard from the first minute to the end and this is the key to winning football matches.”

The former Gunner does believe that the side are capable of winning the league, however was wary of the threat that Manchester City pose. Toure also played for the Citizens between 2009 and 2013. He also had plenty of praise for Mikel Arteta, who turned 41 over the weekend. The Spaniard is taking his success on the field with Arsenal straight to the touchline.

“They look like a team that can win the Premier League,

“The quality they have on the pitch, the chemistry they have with each other.

“They defend and attack together. They suffer together and they enjoy together.

“Mikel Arteta has been incredible. What he is doing as a young manager is inspiring us. You can see the energy he is bringing.

“He was really lucky to work with one of the best managers in the world in Pep Guardiola – learning from him was vital.

“But with Man City, they have the experience and Arsenal have to be really careful they don’t slip because this Man City team will give everything they have until the last game.”
