Katie Taylor finally looks set for a homecoming fight in Ireland this year. The undisputed lightweight world champion is rumoured to be fighting Amada Serrano in a highly anticipated rematch in the summer. The 3Arena in Dublin looks set to host this mega-fight on May 20th.

Katie Taylor Set For Homecoming Fight With Serrano In Summer

It looks like Katie Taylor is finally set to fight as a professional back in her home country of Ireland. ‘KT’ hasn’t fought in Ireland since early 2016 as an amateur, and is certainly due a homecoming bout.

It had been hoped that Croke Park would be the venue for Taylor’s homecoming, but that seems to be off the cards now. Negotiations with the GAA fell through with a potential fight in the summer at Croke Park coinciding with a busy time in the Gaelic Games calendar.

However, it isn’t all bad news as it seems Taylor will still get to fight in her home country in the summer. It has been rumoured that the 36-year-old will return to Ireland on May 20th for a rematch fight with Amanda Serrano. The 3Arena in Dublin is set to stage the lightweight rematch, dependant on how Serrano gets on this weekend.

The Puerto Rican is in action in a featherweight unification fight with Erika Cruz at Madison Square Garden this Saturday. Serrano is favourite to win the bout, with Taylor set to be ringside watching on. Fingers crossed Serrano gets the job done and sets up a mouth-watering rematch on May 20th with the Irish fighter.

Taylor and Serrano battled it for lightweight supremacy back in April last year, with Ireland’s superstar getting the nod on a split decision. The fight made boxing history by being the first ever women’s fight to headline at MSG, as well as being awarded ‘Fight of the Year’ by numerous media outlets for 2022.

The fight was broadcast live on DAZN, one of the best boxing live streaming sites, and is set to be shown on their platform again for this potential Serrano rematch in May.

Eddie Hearn ‘Frustrated’ Croke Park Fight Couldn’t Happen

Promoter Eddie Hearn is hopeful of staging Taylor’s next fight in Ireland, but is also frustrated that he couldn’t deliver a Croke Park homecoming for Katie Taylor this summer. In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani for the MMA Hour, Hearn said:

The cost of hire, the cost of everything involved with the event is three times nearly more than staging it at Wembley Stadium. It’s unbelievable.

“It’s a business. Ultimately, Katie Taylor has her financial demands for this fight. So does Amanda Serrano and we want to make sure we deliver on that.

“But we’re so far out on the possibility with the cost of running that show and we’re out of time in terms of delivering that date to the broadcaster so we’ve got to move.

“I promised Katie Taylor would be in Ireland for her next fight. It will be the most sensational atmosphere wherever we are but we’ll see what happens then.”

The Aviva Stadium was also considered for a potential homecoming venue for Taylor, but that was also a non-runner due to the final of rugby’s European Champions Cup taking place at the stadium on the same day as Taylor’s bout.

Katie Taylor is currently the slight betting favourite with the best UK betting sites to beat Serrano again in a potential rematch. She is priced as a 4/6 favourite, with Amanda Serrano currently a 11/8 underdog with the best sports betting apps.
