Paisley Park Has Been Placed Three Times In Stayers’ Hurdle

This 11 year-old has a top record in the race – winning the prize when at the peak of his powers in 2019, but has also picked up two bronze medals in the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle since 2019 – including for the last two years, when third to Flooring Porter, and there’s every chance he’ll be back for more in 2023.

No Spring-Chicken At 11, But Still Loving His Racing

Of course, at the age of 11 this is likely to be his final season and could also be his last Festival outing, but he’s shown this season that he’s still got a healthy appetite for racing by winning the Long Walk Hurdle on Boxing Day at Kempton – a race that is often a good guide for the Stayers’ Hurdle. While prior to that run was a close second in the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury.

Yes, his last run was a below-par third in the Cleeve Hurdle – a race he’s won three times in the past – but he’s named after the singer Prince’s home and studio, and just like that famous ‘Purple Rain’ performer did, Paisley Park has reinvented himself many times over the years too, so it would be no shock to see him leave that last run behind him.

Paisley Park Has Only Finished Out of The First Three Four Times From 25 Runs Over Hurdles

PP is also a very consistent performer over hurdles – from his 25 races over the sticks he’s won 11 and finished in the top three 21 times. Therefore, this means he’s finished 4th or worse just four times over hurdles.

Several Ahead of Him In The Market Likely To Have Other Targets
