Gabriel Jesus picked up a hamstring injury in the latter stages of Tuesday night’s Champions League win against Sevilla. Questions were asked whether he’d be able to start for Arsenal tomorrow afternoon. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta addresses the situation in his press conference.
Jesus went for a scan today but the results are yet to be announced on how long the forward will be out for. However, Arteta mentioned that Thomas Partey suffered a serious setback with his groin injury earlier in the week. Partey has already missed 6 weeks worth of the season with the injury, it’s clear Arsenal need to take things slow with him.
Arteta said: “The scan shows there is a muscle injury and we might lose him (Partey) for a few weeks. With Gabi (Jesus), I cannot give you any timeframe because he always surprises us. But there’s something there he felt in an awkward action (against Sevilla).
“It’s true he had quite a lot of load in the last few weeks, which he hasn’t in a long time. It’s really bad news for us.”
Jesus remains a major doubt for Saturday’s action which adds to the injury history that Jesus has had since joining the Gunners in 2022.
He picked up a knee injury in the World Cup whilst representing Brazil that saw him on the sidelines for most of the second half of last season.
The knee problem then repeated in early August which saw him miss the opening couple matches of the season.
There have been rumours that Ivan Toney could join Arsenal in January despite him not seeing any minutes since May due to the FA banning him for 8 months due to betting offences. The forward will be allowed to play in the new year.
Toney does have a better goalscoring record of late netting 20+ goals for Brentford last season. Jesus has been heavily criticised for missing too many chances. The Brazilian has 4 goals to his name so far this season.
