Arsenal came out on top against Manchester United in a five goal thriller at the Emirates and Gary Neville compared the current Gunners team to the Invincibles, however insists they still won’t win the league this season.

Mikel Arteta and his side have been scarily good at times this season and Sunday was no different, as a Bukayo Saka screamer along with an Eddie Nketiah brace sealed a huge three points for Arsenal against rivals United.

Former United star and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was impressed yet again with Arsenal on Sunday and even compared the current side to the team he played against when the invincibles were playing.

“It felt like Arsenal were like they were maybe 20 years ago. When I was a player against them, I used to wish they’d shoot from distance or cross it – but they would play that extra pass to get it into wide positions.

“They would keep driving you into your box. I’d find myself getting deeper, narrower and under pressure. It just felt like the goal was coming. It was just wave after wave of attack, and it felt like that 20 years ago when you were playing against such a good Arsenal team.”

Despite holding such high praise for the Gunners, Neville still believes that Arsenal will struggle to win the title this year and has Manchester City as his pick to win the league if they can remain consistent.

“The reason I say Arsenal won’t win the league is because they’ve not won it for 20 years and the majority of these players haven’t won it yet. They need to prove they can go through the second half of the season that they can win the league.

“They need to now go on and prove to us that they can win the title, which is going to be really tough. They’ve still got to play Manchester City twice and they’ve got them on their shoulders.”

The win for the Arsenal this weekend means that the gap between them and Manchester City increases back to five points, with Arsenal having played one less game than Guardiola’s side.

Arsenal’s next challenge comes on Friday, as they take on Manchester City for the first time this season in what could be an exciting FA Cup Fourth Round tie.
