Gary Lineker has been surrounded by controversy after his political comments on Twitter and is facing a possible sacking, so take a look at the odds for his next job.

The former Barcelona striker became the host of Match Of The Day back in 1992, taking over from long-time presenter Des Lynam. Making over 750 appearances on the show, Linker has turned into one of the most notable names in the country.

Being on our screens every Saturday night has seen the 62-year-old’s popularity soar, picking up 8.7 million followers on Twitter making him one of the most followed footballing names outside of current players, which comes with its positives and negatives.

On Wednesday the Brit took to Twitter to show his disapproval towards Rishi Sunak’s flagship Illegal Migration Bill. This irritated members of Downing Street and a variety of Conservative MPs replied to his tweets to show their stance on the matter.

News reporters travelled to Lineker’s place of residence, asking him if he regretted his tweet and if a possible sacking could come to fruition.

This controversy has caused UK betting sites to release odds for the MOTD hosts’ next job, which includes a range of different hosting roles. One being the opportunity to take over from Jeremy Clarkson on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

Should the 20-year MOTD servant be sacked it is unclear who could take his place, but likely candidates are Jermaine Jenas and Alex Scott. The pair have become familiar faces on the BBC, covering FA Cup matches primarily and could be perfect replacements for Lineker.
