World number 3 golfer and US Open winner Jon Rahm was left astounded by Gareth Bale’s golfing ability after playing nine holes in San Diego.

Bale announced his retirement from club and international football in early January, but has since confirmed that he will be participating in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament in February, alongside a whole host of celebrities and professional golfers.

In preparation for the competition, the former Wales star got some practice in with professional golfer Jon Rahm at the Torrey Pines golf course in California.

The Spaniard has won both of his last two PGA Tour events, and, according to Golf betting sites, is one of the favourites to win the upcoming Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego.

After completing nine holes with the former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur forward, Rahm was full of praise for Bale’s golfing skills.

“I told Gareth you just can’t be so good at professional football and golf at the same time, it just doesn’t seem fair,” he told Spanish outlet Marca.

“You can’t do one thing and be so talented at golf. It’s not fair at all.

“He loves golf and he really wants to get to play a little bit more, so hopefully in the future I’ll see him more times in the pro-am.”

Rahm went on to explain how Bale did not ask him for any advice.

“He hasn’t asked me for anything, nor should he, he’s good enough,” he said.

“As I said, being a professional footballer has nothing to do with being that good, he’s already good enough.

“The moment he practices more, he will improve a lot. He’s a very, very good player.”
