Arsenal jumped back over Manchester City in the table on Sunday, after a five goal thriller saw the Gunners beat Liverpool at the Emirates.

Although there was many standout performers for Arsenal on Sunday, nobody was praised higher than 21-year old Gabriel Martinelli, who picked up the man of the match award alongside a goal and an assist.

Martinelli was flying around the pitch as usual from the first minute to the last, but it was in the very first minute that the Brazilian got his goal.

Martin Odegaard slid a typically inch-perfect pass through the Liverpool defence for Martinelli, who was on hand in the box to sweep the ball into the bottom corner and put Arsenal ahead after just one minute.

Martinelli carried the momentum from his bright start through with him for the rest of the match, as the nippy winger was also able to grab an assist for Arsenal’s second of the game with a low cross to the back post finding Bukayo Saka to give Arsenal the lead again just before the break.

The Arsenal star continued his five star performance during the second half, and his efforts over the game was eventually enough to earn Martinelli the man of the match award.

One former Liverpool player who was full of praise for Martinelli was Danny Murphy, who was in awe of the Arsenal winger on Match of the Day 2:

“The two young lads playing left and right for them would be giving any defences in Europe or world football a problem. Great players can force teams into mistakes.

“They’re relentless. They’re so direct and so full of confidence at the moment.”

Arsenal will be hoping that they can keep their momentum in the league this season, as they attempt to stay top next weekend with a clash against Leeds at Elland Road on Sunday that Gabriel Martinelli will no doubt feature in.
