Two ex-referees have demanded that harsher punishments are put in place for diving and have ruthlessly called out PSG superstar Neymar.

Former Scottish League referees Steve Conroy and Des Roache have expressed their issues with simulation in football and are demanding far stricter punishments for players who dive intentionally.

Roache has suggested that all match officials should give a red-card to any player that is penalised for simulation and a minimum three-match ban for those caught diving. Coming out on a podcast to show his frustration with the state of the current law.

Roache said: “If you deliberately cheat, you’re doing that to disadvantage the opposition to try to get someone sent off or win a penalty. The only sanction for this is a yellow card, and that simply isn’t sufficient. I think if you get caught for simulation, it has to be a red card and on top of that, an automatic three-match ban.”

Conroy agrees with Roache and would also like to see a far harsher punishment, and he also highlighted his disapproval of PSG winger, Neymar Jr.

Conroy said: “It is vile, and we have to try to get rid of it. Neymar is the worst exponent on the planet. I don’t know how any ref can give him a decision.”
