The first leg fixtures of the Europa League knockout round play-offs get underway on Thursday evening, where 16 teams will go head-to-head in a two-legged tie for a spot in the last-16 of the competition.

The Europa League knockout round play-offs get underway on Thursday night with the first leg fixtures, where 16 teams: the eight runners-up from the Europa League group stage and the eight third-placed teams from the Champions League group stage, go head-to-head for a spot in the last-16, where they join the eight group winners.
These are two-legged ties, so if the scores are level after 180 minutes next week – the games will go to extra time, and if there is still nothing to separate the sides after another 30 minutes – the tie will be decided via a penalty shootout.
There are no English or Scottish teams involved at this stage of the competition, as Manchester City and Arsenal remain in the Champions League, Liverpool, Brighton, West Ham and Rangers are through to the last-16, while Manchester United, Newcastle, Celtic and Aberdeen have been eliminated from Europe altogether.
Four fixtures get underway at 17:45, with Eredivisie champions Feyenoord taking on Serie A outfit Roma in the standout tie, while Galatasaray take on Sparta Prague, Shakhtar Donetsk face Marseille, and Sporting head to the Swiss capital to take on Young Boys.
A further four ties will get underway following the culmination of the early kick-offs, scheduled to start at 20:00, with Italian giants AC Milan hosting Ligue 1 outfit Rennes in what looks to be the round’s marquee clash.
Lens, who were in Arsenal’s group in the Champions League, face Freiburg in another tie between two sides in Europe’s top five leagues, while Benfica entertain Toulouse and Braga host Azerbaijani side Qarabag.
