After a mesmerising start to life in England, a select group of opposition fans have hilariously started a petition in an attempt to get Erling Haaland banned from playing for Manchester City.

The Norwegian’s first few months since making the switch from Borussia Dortmund have been record-laden, storming towards the top of the Premier League Golden Boot table with 14 goals in eight games, while he has 19 in 12 across all competitions.

As well as this, he also broke a record previously shared by Sergio Agüero and Micky Quinn  for the most goals scored in a player’s opening five games in the Premier League.

And perhaps most impressive of all, which he completed with a staggering hat-trick in his first Manchester derby last week, is consecutive hat-tricks in three home league games – a feat only ever achieved by the 22-year-old.

This accumulation of stupendous numbers has been lauded by fans and experts across the football community, but one group have taken matters into their own hands by starting a comical petition to try and remove Haaland from City.

The petition on Change.org has garnered almost 300, and is officially named “Petition to get Erling Haaland banned from Association Football because it’s just not fair”.

The description of the petition reads: ‘It’s just simply not fair. We can make a change. Now is the time for us people to act. This robot should not be allowed to carry on in our country.’

City, who are as short as 1/5 in football betting to retain their crown this year, host Southampton at the Etihad on Saturday, and this petition is indicative of the fear that opposition teams will have whenever they face Guardiola’s side – this weekend will be no different for the Saints.

Although the away side finished with a favourable record against the champions last season after holding them to a draw home and away, Haaland may well prove to be the catalyst in the Cityzens grabbing the win this time around.

We expect there will be a few more signatories on the petition after this weekend.
