Former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov has said that Brazilian winger Antony gets ‘deserved criticism’ for being a ‘show off’.

Antony arrived at Old Trafford last summer for a huge £86million fee, and has struggled to live up to the price tag.

The Brazilian has impressed in spells, but has regularly provided frustrating performances.

He has been a regular starter under Erik ten Hag however and has netted seven goals in all competitions.

Known for his speed and skills, Antony has split opinion amongst Premier League fans and pundits.

A lot of this is down to his trademark spin, something which has been heavily criticised by former Manchester United player Roy Keane.

Keane has said that the Brazilian will ‘learn the hard way’ if he carries on ‘trying to make a fool’ of opponents.

But now another former Red Devils star has offered his opinion on the winger, and has advised him to stop being a show off.

United’s former Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov has revealed that he thinks Antony has been a good signing, but needs to stop with the trickery at times.

“I think he’s been a good signing,” Berbatov said.

“However in my eyes, he does sometimes get deserved criticism because he shows off on the pitch and he tries to make the opposition look foolish in a negative way.

“Sometimes his trickery provides nothing for the team and if he can eradicate these negative elements of his game then it will greatly improve his impact on the team.”

He continued by saying that Antony may end up getting kicked by opponents if he continues to mock them.

Berbatov added: “If you mock your opponent then they’re going to kick the s*** out of you and you’re not going to have the respect of the players you’re playing against.

“If he can remove these traits, then he can improve a lot more because he’s a great talent with great qualities and he scores great goals as well.

“His problem is that he can p*** people off and he needs to correct this.”
