Diego Simeone has spoken about Joao Felix for the first time since his return from loan at Chelsea, with the Atletico boss open to selling to rivals if  ‘good for Atletico economically’.

Felix struggled to settle in to life at Chelsea to begin with, but eventually he settled in to the team and looked like one of their brightest talents in a poor season.

Mauricio Pochettino has sent Felix back to Atletico after just six months at Chelsea, as the new Blues boss hopes to complete a summer clear-out after one of Chelsea’s worst seasons in decades.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone spoke on Thursday for the first time since Felix returned to Spain, outlining what is planned for his Portuguese superstar in the coming months.

“Joao is our player. If Chelsea don’t want to sign him, as Pochettino seems to have decided, he will have to come back and he will be part of our team.”

“He has enormous quality. It will be however he wants it to be. He is an Atletico Madrid player, I am compatible and I have no problem with anyone. He has always shown quality.”

Simeone could yet sell Felix this summer, but Atletico will be hoping to get some of their €126 million back from their deal with Benfica in 2019.

“We have to see if Joao’s departure for the club is good economically, and that’s not where I come in.”

The Atletico boss also wouldn’t rule out a move to La Liga rivals Barcelona for Felix, who have been interested in the Portuguese forward in past transfer windows.
